Functions and uses of PLC can be said to be almost unlimited. But in practice it can be divided into general and specialized.
General Function
In general the function of PLC is as follows:
- Sequential Control
Processing binary signal inputs to outputs used for sequential sequential processing techniques, here PLC maintains that all steps / steps in the sequential process takes place in the correct order.
- Monitoring Plant
Monitor a system (eg temperature, pressure, altitude) and take action as it relates to the process being controlled (eg value exceeds the limit) or display the message to the operator.
Special Functions
While specifically, PLCs have functions as input providers to CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) for further processing purposes.
CNC has higher accuracy and is more expensive when compared to PLC.
This device, usually used for finishing process, forming workpiece, molding and so on.
